Whenever I’m asked to explain what I do as a strategist, my reply usually goes something like this: I solve communication problems, and come up with solutions to help my clients, and their businesses, move forward.
Ryan Holiday, one of my favourite authors at the moment says it like this:
“We all have goals, we all have obstacles to those goals and we all live in a world we do not control. Those things combine to create the necessity of strategy.”
Those are your parametres.
- Your goals, or objectives. That which you want to achieve.
- Your challenges. The obstacles between you and your goal.
- And your realities. That which you know is true and you cannot control. Think about your competition and the market as a whole.
If you can get to grips with those three points, you have a start to your strategy and a way to move forward.
